Oh Boy!

At 2 years 7 months old, Irfan talks a lot. He's really a chatter box although we can hardly understand what he's talking about. Some of his favorites are:

1. Yeaaa... Ohhh yeaahhh.. yeaahhh...!! - he says that when he gets really excited for example when meeting new friends.

2. Is that a grasshopper?? - he likes to draw on the 'doodle board'. He keeps asking us, is that yada yada yada..? All we can see is just some scribbles haha. @_@

And today.. he said couple of things that made me went ....what?!?!! Did he just say that?

It all started this morning, as usual I made breakfast for Irfan. And the menu for today was some buns (dinner rolls) with honey butter. As I was washing the dishes, I kept reminding Irfan that he needed to eat his breakfast.
Me: Irfan... eat your breakfast..eat your roti Irfannnn...
Irfan: Eat roti everyday...?!
Me: @_@ What did you just say?
The thing is, I have never ever heard him using the word everyday. And now he's complaining that he has to eat roti everyday? LOL

Then we were getting ready to go out. I'm having my period and as I was 'terkial2' fixing my pad, Irfan came into the bathroom and looked at me with his round eyes and said 'Mama's diaper...mama's diaper' pointing to my pad!! And I was like... bila masa pulak budak ni belajar cakap mcm ni.. nak samakan diaper dia dgn kite pula. He said that because the pad looks like his diaper! LOL

Geleng kepala jela dgn Irfan ni. He's getting smarter and smarter... and growing really fast too. I know that I'm going to miss this phase of my life.

Feyruz’ First Step in Crawling

This video was taken last Saturday when we stopped at the masjid for Maghrib. Feyruz still wiggles his bottom..

Yesterday, Abah showed him our $150 remote control. He’s been excited to play with it for quite some times, but never had a chance because Ummi hides it from him. But.. just this one time to give Feyruz some motivation hehe.. and he DID IT!! Well, almost actually, because he’s still dragging his right foot. Okay more practice Feyruz!!

Sesame Street Live - Wichita, Ks

Went to see Sesame Street Live couple of weeks ago- Apr 4th 2011. The tickets were rather expensive $22 per person w/o company discount. Yet of course nothing can beat the Disney on Ice tix RM 270per person!

The show started at 1:00 PM, we were there just in time to take pic with the Sesame Stalls?! Hahah.. too bad they didn't let people take pictures with the characters, teruk kan. Well I guess it makes sense, if not there'll be hundreds of people lining up.

I don't really know what to say about the show. I was a bit lost hehe.. definitely entertaining thou with all the songs and dance move. Like others say, kids love the show. Irfan sure had a great time but when we got home all that he could remember was the big 'W' sign in front of the women's toilet. That's all that he talked about. Tsk.. tsk..tsk.. buand duit dada la ini budak.

Popiah Basah

Another recipe.. saje la kan kalau tak tulis nanti susah plak nak refer.
I made this utk bawak ke rumah kawan yg mengidam heheh.. nasib jadi. Actually I think I spent several hours nak siapkan kulit popiah tu je... aiyoo.. the last time buat, it was easy peasy.

For Inti:
Carrot - potong panjang2 nipis
Kacang hijau/ buncis
Sengkuang
Kubis - potong halus2
Shrimp (10-12)
Bawang merah + putih (3)
Udang kering (1-2 tbs)
Oyster Sauce (3-5 tbs)
Garam/ Gula

Method: Tumis bawang, udang kering etc.. masukkan shrimp, then segala sayur. At the end masukkan oyste sauce, garam + gula sikit.

Sambal:
Ala this one mcm sambal2 biasa je, just lebihkan bawang putih and gula.

Kulit Popiah:
Flour (1 cup)
Water (3 cups)
Vinegar (2 tbs)
Salt (1 ts)
Method: Ok kulit popiah ni kena buat cair sgt... I dunno why my 2nd attempt tu jadi sticky sikit. But my tip is, buat cair2, and just let the kulit popiah masak for 2 mins or so before terbalik kan.
Before gulung tu, letak a bit of bawang goreng and kacang kisar.

Yummyyy kannn? Nak buat lagi tu... tak tau bila. Sebab memang malassss la sgt  hehehe.. to be honest leceh gile nak buat kuih melayu ni. I'd rather just stare at the pictures, and after several minutes staring, kenyang la kan. Hahah sadis tak..

Malacca posting~

After 1 week of orientation, we are divided in groups for different department and im the lucky 1 who get surgery posting for the 1st one...hohoho surgery is quite tough subject where u need to read alot..n recall all the previous subject; anatomy of human body...(1st year subject, how to recall??) hurmmm i heard rumours from seniors ,many of them being chase away frm surgery class and being shouted in hosp..huhuhu i felt so scared actually to start the postng. Luckily, today everythng going well even though everyone were still blurr2 wut to do..huhuh no one being punish yet..hiihhi just now i've taken 1 case of haemetemesis ( vomittng of blood). The experince of taking a case in Malaysia n India is so different..coz in India, it cause alot of headache when u have to find what is the patient illness, get the information and at same time u also have to translate english---> kannada word..phhewwww u work more n learn litte.. hurmmm here in malacca hosp just now, the interaction between patient and us is more effective laa...hahaha n patient love to tell us everythng about occupation, being bullying at work laa, allergic to mammalia darat, while not allergic to mammalia laut..ahahhah nak tergelak jugak dgr patient yg ske bercerita ni....yeahhh today is a very good beginning n i hope tomorrow n day after tomorrow i can see more varies of different cases! (huhuhu semangaatt nyee)

Whoopie Pie

I came across some pictures of the whoopie pie when I was blog hopping and stalking people haha!
Marvelous Whoopie Pie Nampak sedap gilos kan? Wah kalau dekat Msia sure dah order!

So dah alang2 puasa ganti hari ni, rasa2 nak makan something sweet and yummeh so ape lagi- whoopie pie.
Susah nak cari resepi, it might not be as popular as macaroon and the website above didn't offer any recipe either. Bahan baking kat rumah pun banyak dah habis so, nak tak nak angkut Irfan ke Walmart to get all the ingredients.
I got the recipe from this lady here Whoopie Pie Resepi. I didn't substitute the buttermilk- dah ade kat rumah.

Ingredients:-
For cakes
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup well-shaken buttermilk 
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 large egg 

For fillings:
Jello Pudding - beli je, malas nak buat plus I don't like to eat raw telur..
 
The thing is, I really really like the look of the first whoopie pie yg kat atas tu- cantik. I want to make something exactly like that or maybe something close.
So here's what I ended up with, close but not as pretty hehe.. I used vanilla pudding instead of cream cheese. I would use whipped cream cheese next time around..

I didn't know how to make that pretty looking filling- rupanya selepas bertanya quite a # of people guna nozzle for cake icing. I told ya I'm not an expert.

What do you think? I added some choc sprinkler just to spice things up. I want it to be unique not exactly  like the original version

I ate 4! Haha.. Zuhri ate 3 I think. Irfan-0... haish si kecik ni.. Sedap... but if I'm going to make it again- I'd add more butter (3/4 cup instead of 1/2) and use whipped cream cheese as the fillings. The pudding wasn't sweet enough la.. all in all I can say mission accomplished! What do you think?

Potty Train recap

I can proudly announce that I have successfully potty trained Irfan hehehhehe =)To tell you the truth, the potty training journey wasn't too bad at all, infact I think I might have enjoyed it.

Let me recap the whole potty thingy-
Nov to Dec 2010-
Started training Irfan months ago, didn't do much just showed him some potty videos, bought some potty books, let him sit on the potty chair etc. In the mean time I was doing my own research too- read some potty training books, online tips, read all about the frustrations from some blogger mommies etc... hmmmph the latter one didn't help much la. It actually made me feel that both Irfan and I were not ready hahha salahkan org la pulak kan..

Dec to Jan 2011-
Then I was on holiday mode, sakit mode etc so all the progress was on hold. I petty much was a bit demotivated after reading some horrific stories about potty train.

Mid Feb 2011 (First three days of extensive training)-
I think it was Feb 16 or 17 when I was so determined to just go for it. Diaperless that's it! I was having a hard time at first b/c Irfan was under the impression that diaper= pee/poo. So everytime when he's diaperless, it took him hours and hours (up to 6 hrs!) before he finally said that he wanted to pee, and he'd pee/poo as soon as you put the diaper on (in our case I made him wear diaper right before he naps).
Me on the other hand kept taking him to the potty every half an hour or so (I got this from all the books that I've read); which was so ridiculous b/c he won't pee within 0.5 hr gap. So I stopped doing that and for couple of days I collected some data- basically writing down bila Irfan minum and bila dia pee. After couple of days I got the pattern.
Viola, it gave me some guidelines that if I give him something to drink about 10 am- he'd pee about 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Between 10 am - 12:30, I can peacefully browse the net or watch tv haha.. well there were some accidents but it's not too bad considering that I didn't have to take him to the bathroom every 30 mins! Usually the accidents happened around 12:30 or 2:30 mcm tu la, it's slightly before/ over the time frame.

Second week of extensive training-
After 2-3 days of training, Irfan didn't really show any progress. He won't pee in the potty, melepas sana sini huhu so I introduced some treats to him- chocolate roll and M&Ms after pee or poo. He's getting the hang of it, but still..
Until one day, he actually pooped on the carpet! Euurgghhh... pening pening.. so before cleaned it up, I told Irfan that I was so upset with him, showed him the poop on the carpet besar mak oii and kept telling him-
"Irfan, see you yak on the floor. Now I have to clean it up. Look at yak, you're not supposed to yak on the floor. Irfan is aaaa....(then Irfan sambung) BIG BOY... big boys pee in the  POTTY!"
I kept pointing to the yak and grabbed him and showed to him the toilet next. From his face, I can tell that he's a bit shocked seeing his poop on the floor in the middle of the living room!

From that point on, Irfan will tell me whenever he wants to go. There were some incidents here and there, but just some minor ones. I think after the 'yak in the living room incident', there were only 3-4 times Irfan terlepas pee pee, but then dia tahan and proceed kat toilet. Oh and he calls 'yak' = BIG PEE PEE.. hehe comel..
And now it has been almost 6 days without any accidents.. he would tell me when ever he needs to go, and he's not wearing diaper during nap time either. Big achievement ... I'm so proud of my boy.

Next step is diaperless during outing.. macam mana tu. I might need to do some reading again. Folding potty seat dah beli... we'll see how it goes, berani ke nak keluar sorang2 dgn Irfan yg diaperless? *nervous mode*
